How it works
The calculator divides your annual salary by the total number of hours you are paid for in a year: hours per week multiplied by paid weeks.
A full-time 40-hour week over 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, which is why dividing by 2,080 is the common shortcut. Change the inputs if your schedule is different, for example a 37.5-hour week.
Hourly rate = Annual salary / (Hours per week x Paid weeks)Example
A salary of 60,000 for a 40-hour week over 52 weeks is 60,000 / 2,080 = about 28.85 per hour.
Frequently asked questions
How many working hours are there in a year?
A standard full-time schedule of 40 hours for 52 weeks gives 2,080 hours. Your actual number depends on your contract and local public holidays.
Should I use 52 weeks or fewer?
Use 52 if your salary already covers paid holidays and vacation, which is typical for employees. Use fewer weeks if you want the rate for time actually worked, for example to compare with a freelance rate.
Is the result before or after tax?
It is gross, so it follows whatever you enter. If you enter a pre-tax salary, the hourly rate is pre-tax too.
Does it include overtime, bonuses or benefits?
No. It only converts the base salary you enter. Add bonuses to the salary figure if you want them included.
